What are quality area ratings explained?
Quality area ratings are standardised assessment grades assigned by ACECQA to child care services, measuring performance across areas including learning environments, staffing, partnerships, and governance.
ACECQA (Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority) rates child care services across ten quality areas using a five-level classification system. These ratings provide families on the Gold Coast with a transparent way to understand how a service performs against national standards.
The five rating levels are:
- Excellent indicates the service exceeds expectations across the quality area, with systematic practices that drive continuous improvement.
- Exceeding shows the service is delivering quality above the standard required.
- Meeting means the service satisfies the National Quality Standards for that area.
- Working Towards indicates the service is progressing toward meeting standards, with some gaps in practice or documentation.
- Significant Improvement Required shows the service has not met standards and requires substantial change.
Assessors evaluate each quality area through observation, document review, and conversations with educators, families, and management. Quality areas cover learning and development, physical environments, staffing arrangements, partnerships with families, leadership, governance, and more. Ratings remain publicly visible and matter to parents evaluating options for their children's care and education.
